The main difference between EDT, EDP, Parfum, and Extrait is concentration — how much perfume oil is in the fragrance.
In theory higher concentration means stronger scent and longer wear, however skin chemistry, oil quality and how you apply perfume also matter.
Eau de Toilette (EDT)
-
Light concentration (5–15% perfume oil)
-
Typically lasts 2–3 hours
Eau de Parfum (EDP)
-
Higher concentration than EDT (15–20% perfume oil)
-
Typically lasts 3–6 hours
Parfum
-
Very high concentration (20–30% perfume oil)
-
Typically lasts 6–8 hours
Extrait de Parfum
-
Highest concentration (25–40% perfume oil)
- Often wears closer to the skin despite higher concentration
